Raw Narrative. From an adult perspective childhood memories accordion into focus. I see poetry in things—clothes, shoes, pearls, ribbons, and houses. These objects from my childhood are the tools I use to tell my stories. Reimagined and viscerally painted, I compress layers of storytelling, and layers of memories, into one image. The new surfaces obliterate the bulk of the original subject and leave isolated symbols on the canvas. The poetic language of these paintings delves into the contradiction of belonging to a family and yet being alone.
